A smart choice for long-term financial security
A PPF calculator is a free online tool that estimates the maturity value, total interest earned and total investment of your Public Provident Fund (PPF) account. Instead of manually working out compound interest year after year, you enter your yearly deposit, tenure and the current PPF interest rate, and the calculator instantly shows how your money grows — making it easier to plan a long-term, tax-free savings goal.
The PPF maturity amount is calculated using annual compound interest on your running balance. For every year of the tenure, the calculator adds your yearly deposit, then applies the current PPF interest rate to the updated balance:
Balance (this year) = Balance (last year) + Yearly DepositInterest = Balance × Interest RateBalance = Balance + InterestThis repeats for every year of your chosen tenure (15 years by default, extendable in blocks of 5). The PPF interest rate is compounded annually, though in practice it is calculated monthly on the lowest balance between the 5th and last day of each month — so depositing before the 5th of the month earns interest for that month too.
The PPF interest rate for FY 2026-27 is 7.1% per annum, reviewed and notified by the Government of India every quarter. This rate applies uniformly across every PPF account in the country — whether held with SBI, Post Office, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank or any other authorised bank — since PPF is a central government savings scheme, not a bank product.
PPF is one of the few investments in India with EEE (Exempt-Exempt-Exempt) tax status, making the maturity amount you see above completely tax-free:
Working out 15 years of compound interest by hand is slow and error-prone. An online PPF investment calculator gives you an instant, accurate estimate so you can:
Compare how different yearly deposit amounts change your final corpus
Plan whether to extend your account beyond 15 years
See exactly how much of your maturity value comes from interest versus your own deposits
Set a realistic long-term goal, such as retirement or a child's education, with tax-free certainty
